GENERATIONS FAMILY HEALTH PLAN, INC ANNOUNCES A NEW COMPLEMENTARY AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE PROGRAM FOR MEMBERS
Chapel Hill, NC (December 6, 1999) – Generations Family Health Plan, Inc. announces that they will have a new comprehensive Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) discount program available for members. The Generations Complementary and Alternative Medicine Program will be available to all members with the exception of Federal and State members due to specific contract agreements with those groups in place at this time.
Beginning January 1, 2000, Generations members will have access to a broad range of complementary and alternative medical therapies and services at a discounted rate, including acupuncture, naturopathy, stress management, massage therapy, fitness centers, and nutritional counseling.
The program offers members a broad network of providers and services established by Charlotte–based Alternative Healthcare Options (AHO). Practitioners participating in the AHO network have been screened and selected by AHO according to guidelines established by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). Practitioners must follow an application and review process, and meet training, licensure and experience requirements. They are reviewed by a team of peers on a wide range of guidelines, including quality and availability of services, facility standards and location.
There are no claim forms, referrals or other paperwork. Members will simply show their Generations ID Card to a participating provider or service and receive a discount off the normal billed charges. The minimum discount is 20 percent for services such as acupuncture, naturopathy and massage therapy. Discounts are also provided to members who access retail stores and fitness centers.
“Generations
recognizes the increase in the prevalence of complementary and alternative
medicine and therapy use and is proud to offer this program to our members”
states John C. Hays, President and CEO.
Alternative care options are becoming more important to consumers, according to the Landmark Report on Public Perceptions of Alternative Care (1998). According to the report, 67 percent of consumers said the availability of an alternative health care component was an important consideration in choosing a health plan, and 42 percent of those polled indicated past or current use of alternative care services.
