
Our Licensed Acupuncturists are certified by the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncturist and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). NCCAOM certification requires 1,800 hours of instruction, 1,000 hours of internship, passage of a comprehensive set of written and practical examination, successful completion of a course on clean needle techniques (the use of disposable needles only) and commitment to the professional code of ethics. Our providers of acupuncture have met all of the requirements for licensing and certification to practice.
Our M.D.s practicing acupuncture received training through a continuing education program consisting of 600 hours of training, are members of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture (AAMA) and have at least 1,000 hours of clinical practice in acupuncture.
All of the chiropractors at AHO are graduates of an accredited chiropractic school with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. This includes but is not limited to more than 2,000 hours of biological and clinical sciences, more than 1,000 hours study of chiropractic sciences, such as body mechanics, spinal analysis and adjustment, and x-ray techniques and interpretation and 900 hours of clinical practice before graduation that includes all aspects of patient care. In addition they have met all of the licensing and certification requirements to practice in the appropriate state(s).
Our naturopathic providers have attended an accredited naturopathic school for a 4-year graduate-level naturopathic medical program, following three years of standard pre-medical education, with a training in basic and clinical medical sciences equivalent to that of an M.D.
Our massage therapists have been to an approved school in which they have successfully completed a minimum of 500 classroom hours of supervised instruction, passed an examination and are in good standing with the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.
Laboratory Diagnostic Assessment
Our provider, Great Smokies Diagnostic Laboratory, is certified by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and fully licensed by Medicare, as well as New York and other states with standards exceeding federal guidelines. Under the terms of this certification and licensure, Great Smokies must meet the highest standards in the laboratory industry. These standards include periodic proficiency testing, professional requirements for all technical employees, and annual on-site inspection (CAP and New York inspect the lab in alternating years).
AHO maintains a strict certification process to verify all of our practitioners credentials are in accordance with the guidelines of the National Commission on Quality Assurance.
